Stupid Old Studios Co-Produce: The Most Upsetting Guessing Game in the World

For this project we teamed up with our long-time roomies Aunty Donna and their company Haven’t You Done Well Productions for a chaotic online improv series.

The Brief

To co-produce a 4 episode improv web series in our studio in Brunswick featuring game play as well as talking head interviews then edit and deliver for release on the Grouse House YouTube channel.

Our approach

We worked collaboratively with the team at Haven’t You Done Well to work out how to turn the improv game (which Aunty Donna would often use as a warm up exercise) into a filmed series.

We worked with them on the look and feel of the studio set up and talking heads and then it was a matter of getting out of the performers’ way and letting the cameras roll.

The challenges

The original plan was for four shorter episodes of around 15 minutes, but that idea was quickly canned in favour of letting the show breathe with the shorter episodes being around 40 minutes, and the longest at almost 90.

Editing an improv game comes with its own challenges. There’s no script so you need to make decisions and cuts where you can to try and keep the flow.

Our services

As a production partner we provided creative and technical input into how to structure and film the show.

The show was filmed entirely in our studios utilising a combination of Stupid Old Studios and Haven’t You Done Well crew.

We provided post production services including all editing, graphics and sound mix.

The Outcome

The show was a huge success and is now in its third series with a combined total of 1.9 million views across 12 episodes.

The series showcases Australia’s comedy talent and is a great example of how Stupid Old Studios can collaborate with other producers bringing our creative comedy chops and state-of-the-art studio space to make unique creative programs.
